Death Drive is a collision of two very distinct worlds; the scorched earth of indie rap legend, Sole, and the concrete jungles of certified platinum producer, DJ Pain1. Death Drive combines modern pop/rap aesthetics with the political edge reminiscent of hip-hop classics such as Fear Of A Black Planet. Sole & DJ Pain1 utilize the golden era hip-hop approach of a rapper and DJ without employing gimmicks or rap cliches typical with more formulaic two-turntables-and-a-mic unions. Cross-pollination between mainstream music and the underground has been happening for years, but anything that bubbles up is always devoid of substance. Death Drive is a political rap album executed in a way that eschews the rapper persona of martyr/prophet and speaks from the riot line. In a period of human history where critical music is absent from the airwaves, this is true resistance music.

In 1998 he founded Anticon Records, the first collectively owned indie Hip-Hop label in the United States. Since then, Sole has played over a thousand shows throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Japan. His music has been featured in major media outlets such as Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, MTV, Huffington Post, Spin, Alternet, and many more. Sole has released eight full length studio albums and over a dozen mixtapes. In 2009, together with award winning visual artist, Ravi Zupa, he published The Pyre, an illustrated epic poem exploring empire, radical philosophy, anti-capitalism, and collapse. Throughout his career sole has been known as one to push the limits in terms of genre and content and is widely heralded as a pioneer of avant garde & experimental rap music. His latest albums present a thorough examination and celebration of resistance happening around the world. Sole’s activism reaches beyond the studio and stage into his everyday life where he is deeply involved material and logistical support to many projects that engage directly in the class struggle.
Moodie Black has seemingly appeared out of thin air, rising from disintegrated dusting's of a newly popular genre- noise rap - with a recent featured article in international French publication New Noise, a Death Grips remix, and collaborations with emcee Dalek, Moodie Black has stirred some curiosity.
Shaped and formed in the deserts of Arizona, Moodie Black pulled themselves from the dust, undaunted by criticism for their abrasive sound and controversial stage shows since 2004. Regarded as a legitimate pioneer of mood in a very small class of noise rap (Death Grips, BLACKIE, Dalek), the band's unorthodox approach to production, mixing, and live performance has begun to be recognized by the human masses. Outfitted with disembodied baby heads tethered to gold chains, Moodie Black is visceral, melodic, and of course devastatingly moody.
